Nasty girl no more

Nasty girl no more
Personally, I think these stink so my ratings on taste and scent are based on the fact that my dogs eat them right up. I've never had a dog relentlessly pursue eating another dog's poo before this one and it thoroughly grosses me out. After only 2 doses of this supplement, I watched the nasty girl sniff her sister's fresh deposit and walk away with a taste test! Normally I have to watch them go so I can tell her to leave it and I had resigned myself to having a dog with a nasty habit but now I'm adding these to my subscriptions.

Puppy with a penchant for poo? These bites are for you!

My 6 month old Weimaraner puppy developed a hankering for fresh poo – his and his older brother’s (an 11 year old Weim). Disgusted and desperate, I turned to Zesty Paws. The poo eating did not stop 100% until I got the dosage right – my older dog is 95 pounds and needed more bites than the baby. But even with a lower dose, the poo eating diminished within a day (I cleaned up all pre-bite piles, and it just has to pass through their system to be effective). Some of the penchant for poo was anxiety and boredom related, but the taste deterrent really worked to reduce his poo drive.

The side benefit? Both dogs lost their stanky breath! It took 3 days to notice this change, but even the vet commented at my old boy’s regular checkup that he didn’t have dog breath! Shocked the heck out of me because he can usually take a person down with the stink of his old man dog breath.

We unfortunately had to test the efficacy of these bites when we ran out and they were out of stock everywhere, including from the manufacturer. Poo eating is not as rampant as it was pre-bites (yay for behavior shaping), but the stinky breath is slowly coming back. I also noticed their stools were healthier while on this supplement. They’ve been more diarrhea prone in the last couple of weeks, with much softer stool piles. Just ordered a bunch as they’re back in stock and can’t wait for them to get here. They’re a life saver.

Helps somewhat in the short term but the dog is getting used to them

I have 2 Weimaraner puppies. My older female is a slow eater and a bit more discriminate about food. My 4.5 month old male is a garbage disposal that goes mad for anything even remotely edible. He is obsessed with eating poop- his own and his sisters, it doesn’t matter. Out of desperation, I sprinkled cayenne pepper on all the piles I could find in the yard to try to give him a negative association with eating poop. He started avoiding the piles with the pepper, but would inevitably find the ones I missed.

So, I bought these about 2 weeks ago. I give 2 tablets to each dog with their meals as they are roughly 40lbs each. Remember you have to give it to ALL dogs to make their piles taste bad to the naughty poop eaters. Thankfully both my dogs seem to eagerly eat the tablets, even though they smell absolutely horrid to me. Anyway, at the same time I went around the yard and tried to get all the poop picked up to make sure no piles were left so my dog would only be able to find the piles that were made AFTER taking the tablets. I did notice a fairly dramatic reduction in poop eating after the tablets started, but the poop eating has not stopped. My offending dog still comes in at least once a day wagging his tail, licking dookie off his chops, and smelling like a sewer. I think he is actually developing a tolerance to it.

Your best course of action with a poop eating dog is just to pick up the poop, but if you are like me and have high energy dogs and a huge fenced yard, you aren’t going to catch them pooping every time and they make so many piles that it’s hard to keep up. I feel like these tablets do help, at least initially, but when you have a dog with a voracious appetite for poop, I don’t think these are a good long term solution. I’m going to be moving on to a training collar at this point.

Oh also FYI, these probably will not stop your dog from going for the cat poop or other random poop they find on walks. It makes THEIR poop taste bad. Other animal poop still tastes delicious to them.

I purchased these when they first came out, and like others reviewers have said, they stunk to high heaven. But my dogs scarfed them up and they definitely worked even within 2 weeks. I would watch my new puppy sniff a pile of poo and walk on by, and it even deterred my 13 year old chronic poo eater. They were out of stock for a while and the second order definitely is not the same. They don't smell nearly as bad, and have had zero effect on either of my poo eaters. I returned for a refund. This has been the best product I've come across, so hopefully they go back to the original formula.

Works better than other coprophagia treatments so far!

Our poo-eater just won't stop. We've tried nutritional supplements and he regularly gets probiotic, but coprophagia is an ongoing problem. We've tried several other types of coprophagia treatments and chews, and this one seems to be the most effective so far. It doesn't upset his stomach, and if we keep up his regular supplementation, he seems to lay off the poo-eating. The only issue we've had with this is that it goes out of stock fairly often! Maybe that's a sign it's effective? I don't know. It isn't cheap, especially when you have an XL dog who needs several chews a day, but if we don't give them to him, we pay in so many more unpleasant ways!

My dogs love them, work well with no smell problems

Worked in about a week, all my dogs love them, doesn't smell bad, and probiotics reduce loose stool episodes. The afflicted dog will occasionally take one bite of a stool, but won't eat the stool. All the dogs love these and have no problem with the smell or taste. They have more of a smell than the Zesty Paws probiotic bites, I don't find it very strong or a problem. The dogs consider these to be treats and have no problems gobbling them up (I place them on top of their food at mealtime.) . These Chew No Poo Bites are soft chews that are easy to break in half for smaller dogs. So far, I have repeat purchased these 7 times, and I changed from a similar product, Solid Gold Stop Eating Poop soft chews, which was no longer working with my dog. The probiotics also seem to improve their digestion, with fewer occurrences of loose stools.
    ** Update October 09, 2021
These have been out of stock/unavailable on Amazon for a whole year now. since my last purchase of these in October 2020. Every two weeks, I try to order them automatically as an Amazon Subscribe & Save order, but the order is always cancelled with reason shown as "Currently Unavailable". Hopefully, the manufacturer can resume production and deliveries soon.

Just ok, smells funny compared to other probiotic chews

This did not work to keep our dog from trying to eat her poo, though I admin that the dose for her size was 1 1/2 treats instead of the 1 I was giving her. I did not like the smell of these chews though the dogs didn't seem to mind the flavor; they just figured it was another treat and gobbled it up every time. I also thought it gave our dog who licks her paws a lot a funny smell, but I didn't notice it on the other dog who is not a licker. The 'time released' capsaicin concerned me some as this dog already has some 'sour tummy' issues that I didn't want to make worse, so I ended up switching back to a regular probiotic. The regular digestive pumpkin flavor probiotic smells much better!

This won't work immediately, and I am using 2/meal which is higher than the suggested usage, but it really seems to have substantially curbed the poo-eating. It took about 1.5 weeks. We're probably not at 100% but we're also not closely monitoring. We've gone from a poo free yard to poo all over (oddly glad about that). Ours is a shelter dog from a puppy mill so the habit goes back years. It can be psychological and or mal-nutrition based. I also bought some green tripe to provide essential enzymes, not sure if that helped, but have been giving her those in conjunction with these just-in-case. They can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B68YJQ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In short, definitely working for me and am buying more now. Good Luck to you.

    UPDATE
I stand by this product, after a few weeks our dog has almost 100% stopped eating her poo. I was panicking when it was out of stock, but now I've subscribed to a monthly subscription. It should be noted that I am giving a higher dose (gradually at first) but she tolerates it with no issues. She was a shelter/puppy mill dog with I'm assuming years of this issue. Now its poo galore outside. (Prior, she was a %100 eater). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. But I don't understand the negative reviews.
1.) "It made my dog sick" I'm sorry, but dogs are different, like people, and may have sensitive stomachs. Some dogs will eat bananas but other dogs get sick, Do bananas get a negative review for this??
2.) "My dog still eats the other dogs poo". This is intended only for the dog that is taking it.
3.) "It didn't work, I want a refund" It may not work for all dogs and does not have 100% guarantee. Some dogs may have a physiological issue and/or a psychological issue.
This product was a game changer for us and if you're reading this, I hope so for you as well. Take the negative comments with a grain of salt.

We have two dauchsands, 7 months and 14 years old. They both were horrible poo eaters! We didn't have any success with Forbid from the vet. This is much easier to give, they are eager to eat one per meal in their bowls at breakfast and dinner. They have a very strong odor, but they love them and that is what matters. It only took a couple of days for them to stop. Be sure to pick up any poo from the yard as they start. It will only deter them from the poo that has the chew in it. We are ordering our next shipment. Great buy!
